Crash Course On The History Of Ayurveda

Updated: May 24, 2023

Ayurveda is one of the world's oldest systems of medicine and has its roots in ancient India. The earliest written records of Ayurveda date back over 3,000 years and are found in the Hindu scriptures known as the Vedas.

Over the centuries, Ayurveda developed and evolved, and became a highly sophisticated system of medicine that incorporates a wide range of natural remedies, dietary practices, and therapeutic techniques.

Ayurveda was widely practiced in India for thousands of years and had a significant influence on the development of traditional medical systems in other parts of the world, such as traditional Chinese medicine.

During the colonial period in India, however, Ayurveda declined in popularity as Western medicine gained dominance.

In recent years, however, there has been a resurgence of interest in Ayurveda and other traditional medical systems, as people seek alternative approaches to health and wellness that are less reliant on conventional medicines.

Today, Ayurveda is practiced not only in India but also in many other countries around the world, and is recognized by the World Health Organization as a legitimate system of medicine.
